Abstract
The absorption spectra of novel crowned spironaphthoxazines and their complexes with Ca2+ and Ba2+ are characterized. The stability constant s for the complexes of the compounds investigated are high (the lower limit is 10(6) l/mol). Incorporation of one or two substituents with a crown ether group into the spironaphthoxazine molecule increases the lifetime of the open form. The lifetime remains essentially unchanged upon complexation.
