Jn. Wilson et al., PROPERTIES OF SUPERDEFORMED BAND POPULATION IN THE A-APPROXIMATE-TO-130 REGION, Physical review. C. Nuclear physics, 57(5), 1998, pp. 2090-2094
Intensities of transitions in both yrast and excited superdeformed ban
ds in Ce-132 and Ce-131 have been measured for different compound nucl
ear entry conditions. The reaction of Mo-100(S-36, xn) was used at six
different bombarding energies of 135, 142, 150, 155, 160, and 170 MeV
, covering a wide range in compound nuclear l(max) (47-75 (h) over bar
) and excitation energy (69-95 MeV). Three superdeformed bands were po
pulated in the reactions, namely the Ce-132 yrast band, Ce-131 yrast b
and, and the Ce-131 excited band. Intensity measurements were made as
a function of bombarding energy and various population effects were ob
served. Many of these effects are difficult to explain within the fram
ework of the current picture of superdeformed band feeding. [S0556-281
