Percutaneous biopsies of musculoskeletal lesions are a safe, economica
l, and reliable method of obtaining a diagnosis. Most of these biopsie
s are done under CT guidance, but fluoroscopy is an alternative. Condi
tions that can be discovered through percutaneous biopsies include met
astases, primary benign tumors, infection, and metabolic disease. Expe
rience with invasive procedures and with imaging equipment are the req
uirements for a physician interested in performing these biopsies.
