ELECTROMECHANICAL switches and relays are widely used in systems and c ircuits that require high-power handling capability, reliability and g ood RF performance. Electronic switches, usually based on positive-int rinsic-negative (PIN) diodes, still lag behind the capabilities of ele ctromechanical switches and relays in some areas. The choice between t he two technologies can be difficult without a firm understanding of m echanical switch/relay capabilities.
