I. Lomniczi et al., ASSESSMENT OF BORON CONCENTRATION IN SURFACE AND GROUNDWATERS IN THE LERMA AND CALCHAQUI VALLEYS (PROVINCE OF SALTA, ARGENTINA), Anales de la Asociacion Quimica Argentina, 85(5-6), 1997, pp. 283-293
The boron concentration of surface and groundwaters in Lerma Valley (S
alta, Argentina), where several factories produce boric acid and sodiu
m berates, was measured. Abnormally high values were found in several
wells near one of the factories. The Arenales is sporadically but seve
rely polluted with boron. The Guachipas has a sustained, high boron co
ncentration of natural origin. As a consequence the median boron conte
nt of the Juramento, that drains Cabra Corral lake, is 0.68 mg/L. Owin
g to this research, legislation concerning industrial effluent regulat
ions is being considered.
