In this paper, the Lee-Low-Pines(LLP) variational method and the effec
tive mass approximation are adopted to calculate the polaron energy an
d effective mass in a finitely high barrier quantum well (QW). Because
of the confinement of the QW to the electron, the exact wave function
of an electron in a finitely deep potential well has been used for th
e calculation. Therefore, the influence of the barrier height on the p
olaron properties is taken into account. A comparison is made with the
results of the quantum well with an infinitely high barrier.
