Abstract
Batch, fed-batch, and semicontinuous fermentation processes were used for the production of xylitol from sugarcane bagasse hemicellulosic hy drolysate. The best results were achieved by the semicontinuous fermen tation process: a xylitol yield of 0.79 g/g with an efficiency of 86% and a volumetric productivity of 0.66 g/L/h.
