Abstract
We present some obvious physical requirements on gravitational avatars of nonlinear electrodynamics and illustrate them with explicit determ inantal Born-Infeld-Einstein models. A related procedure, using compen sating Weyl scalers, permits us to formulate conformally invariant ver sions of these systems as well.
