Jm. Moreira et al., SOCIAL COMPETENCE, PERSONALITY AND ADULT ATTACHMENT STYLE IN A PORTUGUESE SAMPLE, Personality and individual differences, 24(4), 1998, pp. 565-570
The aim of the present study was to examine the correlates of adult at
tachment style, measured using a Portuguese translation of the paragra
phs proposed by Hazan and Shaver (1987). University students (N = 138)
responded to this measure. to the Social Competence Questionnaire(Com
Q) and to the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI). Percentages found f
or each attachment style were similar to those found by other authors.
Secure participants scored higher in social competence. In the EPI, t
he anxious/ambivalent group was higher in neuroticism, whereas the avo
idants leaned toward introversion. Differences in correlations among s
ocial competence and personality scales were also found in different a
ttachment styles. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
