SOLID-STATE CHARGE-TRANSFER COMPLEXES OF AROMATIC DIAMINES WITH CENTROSYMMETRIC DDQS

The charge-transfer complexes of aromatic diamines with centrosymmetri c DDQs (2,5-dibromo-3,6dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone and 2,5-dichloro-3,6-d icyano-1,4-benzoquinone) were prepared. Their electronic spectra, vibr ational spectra and electrical conductivities on compressed powdered m aterials were measured. From the analysis of the observed absorption i ntensities and the peak positions charge transfer bands were determine d. The broad bands around 2500 and 2850 cm(-1)in the infrared region o f the complexes constitute the N-H ... O type hydrogen bonded system. These complexes are electrically insulating.
