M. Finkelstein et al., IDENTIFICATION OF ANOMALOUS RADON CONCENTRATIONS DUE TO GEODYNAMIC PROCESSES BY ELIMINATION OF RN VARIATIONS CAUSED BY OTHER FACTORS, Geophysical journal international, 133(2), 1998, pp. 407-412
It has been suggested that temporal variations of radon (Rn) concentra
tions in various media may be used as a possible predictive indicator
of seismic activity. However, observed Rn measurements are a function
of a number of different physical processes including seismic activity
. This paper describes a generalized approach to removing 'noise compo
nents' from the observed data to leave a residual component of radon c
oncentration that reflects geodynamic processes at depth. The approach
is demonstrated using data gathered in Israel at the time of the 1992
October 12 Giza earthquake in Egypt.
