Plasma is the compartment of the blood in which lactate from the worki
ng muscles is released and from which lactate is distributed to other
tissues, e.g. blood cells, liver and nonworking muscles. Therefore, it
might be interesting to study plasma lactate, because it should be cl
oser to muscle lactate that any other lactate value. However, plasma l
actate is difficult to obtain and therefore whole blood lactate is use
d in numerous studies.
