P. Terzieff et J. Auchet, ELECTRONIC-STRUCTURE OF 3D TRANSITION-METAL SOLUTES IN LIQUID ALUMINUM, Journal of physics. Condensed matter, 10(19), 1998, pp. 4139-4145
The changes in the electrical resistivity, the thermoelectric power an
d the magnetic susceptibility of liquid Al due to the addition of smal
l amounts of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni (1 at.%) are discussed. The
variation of the residual resistivity across the series exhibits a cha
racteristic two-peak shape in contrast to the single peak of the solid
state. The analysis of the position and the width of the virtual boun
d d states and the pronounced increase of the magnetic susceptibility
point to a magnetically split band structure in the middle of the seri
es. Impurities of Cr and Mn are indicated to be magnetic. V and Fe are
presumably on the borderline, whereas Ti, Co and Ni are definitely no
nmagnetic if dissolved in liquid Al.
