Abstract
The spherical phylon group is introduced. It is a subgroup of the grou p of all formal diffeomorphisms of R-d which fix the origin. The invar iant theory of the spherical phylon group is used to understand the in variants of the Laplace approximation. A general formula for these inv ariants is given.
