Convection may occur in different processes, which may not depend on t
he buoyancy force. One of these processes is due to the surface tensio
n gradient also known as Marangoni convection. Such convection creates
a strong flow leading to instability for a fluid. Porous medium consi
sts of solid matrix with an interconnected void-filled with a fluid, A
new treatment of the surface tension gradient at the free surface for
a porous medium showed the occurrence of convection due to a temperat
ure gradient normal to the free surface. It was concluded that this co
nvection, being strong at the free surface, might create instability s
imilar to Marangoni-Benard phenomenon.
