Multifragmentation is studied in correlation with energetic protons. A
cold multifragmentation pattern is proposed based on the numerical si
mulation of the stochastic Boltzmann-Langevin model to describe the in
termediate heavy ion collisions, i.e., a sizeable fraction of the avai
lable energy is released from the system by fast non-equilibrium proto
n emission, in which the explosion is caused by a violent but cold exp
ansion of the system. Some typical examples simulated for Ca-40+Ca-40
central collisions at 90 MeV/u are presented. A possible experimental
signature which could be detected using a 4 pi detector system is sugg
ested.
