Abstract
In the present work we report an experimental study of lattice distort ions in metallic nanoparticles. In our case the surface of the particl e was passivated with surfactant molecule (dodecanothiol). We found th at significant differences with respect to the interatomic distances o f bulk metals can be observed. The consequences of these findings are discussed. (C) 1998 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
