Abstract
The electron structure and chemical bonds of elements in chromium stee l subjected to preliminary heat treatment in order to form different b rittle-transition temperatures are investigated. On reaching the tempe rature range of brittle transition, the chemical bond includes not onl y a metallic component but a sharply increasing covalent component wit h the participation of 3d electrons of iron and d electrons of chromiu m.
