R. Wenzl et al., IMPROVED LAPAROSCOPIC OPERATING TECHNIQUES USING A DIGITAL ENHANCEMENT VIDEO SYSTEM, The Journal of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, 5(2), 1998, pp. 175-178
We conducted a prospective, randomized trial in a piglet model to asse
ss the advantages of a digital enhancement video system during difficu
lt endoscopic procedures, Laparoscopic pelvic lymphadenectomy was perf
ormed with either conventional tno-dimensional or digitally enhanced v
ideoendoscopy. With equal amounts of extirpated lymph nodes, the opera
tions performed with digitally enhanced videoendoscopy were significan
tly shorter (left lymphadenectomy p = 0.0001, right lymphadenectomy p
= 0.001), had less blood loss and fewer ia Ise movements, and were ass
ociated with no complications, compared with chose performed with a tw
o-dimensional videosystem. Thus the accuracy of difficult laparoscopic
techniques can be improved by three-dimensional visual perception.
