K. Nagasaki et al., DEPENDENCE OF PLASMA PROFILES ON ECH POWER ABSORPTION IN HELIOTRON-E, Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 67(5), 1998, pp. 1625-1635
Dependence of plasma profiles on the power absorption of electron cycl
otron heating is experimentally studied in the Heliotron-E helical dev
ice. A focused Gaussian beam with controllable polarization makes it p
ossible to change the power absorption. The electron density and tempe
rature profiles are sensitive to the single pass absorption rate. The
electron temperature profile is peaked and the density profile is holl
ow as the single pass absorption increases. The resonance position is
also important for determining their profiles. The electron temperatur
e profile is changed from a peaked one to a hollow one: depending on t
he resonance position. The nondiffusive outward flow, which is necessa
ry to form a hollow temperature profile, is estimated by using a simpl
e heat transport model.
