Abstract
Micromorphological characters assist in the circumscription of the fam ily Myricaceae and can be used to distinguish the segregate genera. Th e fossil record is based on leaf compressions, fruits and pollen grain s. In the Tertiary the commonest genus was Myrica sensu stricto.
