A. Bartoli et Rd. Tortosa, INTERMEDIACY BETWEEN GRINDELIA-CHILOENSIS AND HAPLOPAPPUS-PECTINATUS (ASTEREAE, ASTERACEAE), Taxon, 47(2), 1998, pp. 337-345
Intermediate specimens between Grindelia chiloensis and Haplopappus pe
ctinatus occur in Patagonia (Argentina). They were analysed using the
methods proposed by Wells (distance diagram) and Wilson (character cou
nt procedure). With both methods the hypothesis of hybridity is suppor
ted. A close proximity of H. pectinatus to the genus Grindelia is also
suggested by a high percentage of stainable pollen grains in the puta
tive hybrids, chromosome morphology, and achene anatomy. Based on such
evidence, the new combination G. anethifolia (H. pectinatus Phil., no
n G. pectinata Baker) is proposed.
