VALIDATION OF SUBFAMILY NAMES IN LYTHRACEAE

Reassessment of family alignments in the Myrtales assigns subfamilial status to three, or possibly four, monogeneric families (Sonneratiacea e, Dunbangaceae, Punicaceae, and perhaps Trapaceae). Three subfamily n ames, previously used but not validly published, are validated. The ba sis for validation is summarised for all five subfamily names that are of potential use in phylogenetically based classifications of the Lyt hraceae.
