Sh. Park et al., CHARACTERIZATION OF THE HIGH-TEMPERATURE OXIDATION BEHAVIOR IN FE-25MN-1.5AL-0.5C ALLOY, Oxidation of metals, 49(3-4), 1998, pp. 349-371
The high-temperature oxidation behavior of a Fe-25 Mn-1.5 Al-0.5C allo
y was investigated by using XRD (X-ray Diffraction) and electron micro
scopy. The oxide layers could be macroscopically classified into two z
ones, the external and internal-oxide zones. The external-oxide zone w
as confirmed to be in the order of Mn2O3, Mn3O4, MnFe2O4, (Mn,Fe) O an
d MnAl2O4 phases from the outside surface to the matrix, while the int
ernal oxides, composed of inter- and intra-granular oxides, were ident
ified as MnAl2O4 formed by the selective oxidation of manganese and al
uminum. On the other hand, the Y matrix was transformed to alpha and e
psilon phases by the selective oxidation of manganese.
