A co-deposition of nickel (Ni), phthalocyanine (Pc), and paraffin (Pa)
(Ni Pc * Pa) was prepared by evaporating Ni, Pc, and Pa simultaneou
sly in vacuum. The visible absorption spectrum of a dilute 1-chloronap
hthalene solution of Ni Pc * Pa was compared with that of the co-dep
osition of Ni and Pc (N Pc). The nickel phthalocyanine complex (NiPc
) formation increased to about 70% in Ni Pc * Pa, while it was about
50% in Ni Pc. X-Ray diffraction patterns, electron diffraction patt
erns, and TEM images showed that the crystallinity and crystallite siz
e of the Pc or NiPc component in Ni Pc * Pa decrease greatly compare
d with those in Ni Pc or in the deposition of Pc alone. These result
s indicated that the aggregation decrease of the Pc component in co-de
position was found to be one of the most important factors for the rea
ctivity increase for the NiPc formation.
