D. Yang et al., THE INTERRELATION BETWEEN THE THERMAL-DECOMPOSITION OF LEAD SALT AND THE PLATONIZATION MECHANISM OF DOUBLE-BASE PROPELLANTS, Propellants, explosives, pyrotechnics, 23(2), 1998, pp. 77-81
The effects of carbon black, cupric adipate and RDX on the thermal dec
omposition behaviour of lead flake in double-base system are investiga
ted by DSC measurement. The results show that the thermal decompositio
n peak of lead flake decomposition shifts to lower temperature with th
e addition of carbon black, cupric adipate and RDX, and the exotherm h
eat of lead flake increases with the addition of carbon black and RDX.
DSC results are compared with the burning characteristics of practica
l plateau propellants, the chemical reactions involving lead salts nea
r the burning surface are assumed. The mechanism of the effects of bal
listic modifiers and RDX on the phenomenon of platonization are discus
sed.
