Abstract
The unsteady-state boundary-value problem of the propagation of planet ary waves in semi-bounded channels running north-south is studied in t he beta-plane approximation. An explicit solution is obtained and the behaviour of normal transient waves at long times is investigated. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
