Abstract
Structural genes were cloned for cytochrome bo(3)-type cytochrome c ox idase recently isolated from a Gram-positive thermophile Bacillus stea rothermophilus. Sequencing and Northern blotting analyses indicated th at the two genes cbaA and cbaB composed an operon encoding for subunit s I and II, respectively, and that the oxidase was SoxB-type. They are the first genes for a SoxB-type cytochrome c oxidase whose natural su bstrate is known. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
