Measurements of infinite dilution binary diffusion coefficients D-12 o
f ethanol in water at 2.3 to 60 degrees C and of carbon dioxide in wat
er at 3.8 to 50 degrees C, both at an atmospheric pressure, were made
by the Taylor dispersion method. The D-12 Values for both solutes were
determined by the method of curve fitting in the time domain. Erroneo
us values for D-12 Of CO2 were obtained by the moment method due to th
e response curves having tailing. The measured D-12 values for both so
lutes were well correlated with the water viscosity with the average a
bsolute deviation AAD = 1.2% for ethanol and AAD = 6.3% for CO2. The W
ilke-Chang equation was less accurate in predicting the D-12 for both
solutes.
