In order to develop reactive distillation for producing tert-butylmeth
ylether (TBME) from methanol (MeOH) and tert-butylalcohol (TBA), vapor
-liquid equilibrium data for four ternary systems of MeOH-TBA-TBME, Me
OH-TBA-water, MeOH-TBME-water and TBA-TBME-water have been observed at
atmospheric pressure. Estimation of ternary vapor-liquid equilibrium
relationships have been made by use of Wilson parameters resulting fro
m binary vapor-liquid equilibrium data composed of members of ternary
systems. Further, comparison between ASOG, UNIFAC and Wilson methods h
ave been examined. It is confirmed that Wilson parameters are availabl
e to estimate ternary vapor-liquid equilibrium relationships. Also liq
uid-liquid equilibrium data for two ternary systems of TBA-TBME-water
and MeOH-TBME-water have been observed at 303 K.
