R. Saito et al., SYNTHESIS OF CORE-SHELL TYPE MICROSPHERE WITH REACTIVE SEED MICROSPHERES, Journal of applied polymer science, 69(2), 1998, pp. 211-216
Monodispersed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) particles(seed microsph
eres) were synthesized with the living radical initiators, tetramethyl
thiuram disulfide, or p-xylene dimethyldithiocarbamate by suspension p
olymerization in water media with and without divinyl benzene as a cro
sslinker. Monodispersed spherical microspheres with PMMA core-polyacry
lamide shells were synthesized by UV irradiation to the seed microsphe
re-acrylamide aqueous solution. The content and the molecular weight o
f the polyacrylamide shell chain were controlled by changing the acryl
amide feed and irradiation time of the UV light. The microspheres beca
me dispersible to water after the UV irradiation. (C) 1998 John Wiley
