THE EFFECT OF SAND WAVES ON SOUND REFLECTION FROM THE OCEANIC SHELF BOTTOM

Data of field experiments carried out in an oceanic shelf region with simultaneous side scanning and vertical sounding of the bottom are pre sented. The existence of large sand waves on the bottom, similar to re gular structures, was detected, and a steep anisotropy of bottom refle cted signals at normal incidence was noted.
