The paper presents a rheological model that treats a medium with nonli
near dissipation as a unidimensional chain of masses interacting throu
gh linear and nonlinear inelastic links. In the framework of this mode
l, we derived a nonlinear wave equation and studied such effects of pr
opagation and interaction of elastic waves as self-action of continuou
s harmonic and pulse waves, generation of higher order harmonics, and
the effect of a strong wave on the attenuation of weak waves of other
frequencies.
