Magnetization measurements on the alloy FeAl1-xMnx (0.27 less than or
equal to x less than or equal to 0.6) system have been carried out in
the temperature range 85 less than or equal to T less than or equal to
300 K, and in magnetic fields up to 8 kOe. The analysis of the isothe
rmal magnetization curves show that the samples of x less than or equa
l to 0.31 are paramagnetic and that of x greater than or equal to 0.35
are ferromagnetically ordered. The susceptibilities of the paramagnet
ic samples were found to obey a Curie-Weiss law with negative paramagn
etic temperatures. The magnetic behaviour was explained on the assumpt
ion of the coexistence of both the ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagneti
c interactions in each sample. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
