Abstract
Neutrophils play a pivotal role in host defense against bacterial infe ction, however, these cells may have a harmful effect on normal tissue s under certain pathological conditions. We demonstrate here that apop tosis of these cells is modulated by psychophysical stress and its rel ated hormones, suggesting that psycho-neural systems may exert an effe ct on host defense through modulating neutrophil survival.
