The quest for a vanishing cosmological constant is considered in the s
implest anomaly-free chiral gauge extension of the electroweak standar
d model. New physics is restricted to a well-defined additional flavor
dynamics above the Fermi scale, namely up to a few TeVs, and an extend
ed Higgs structure. In contrast to the electroweak standard model, it
is shown how the scalar sector of the theory allows a vanishing-induce
d vacuum energy density. The details of the cancellation mechanism are
presented. At accessible energies the theory is indistinguishable fro
m the standard model of elementary particles and is in agreement with
all existing data.
