Rr. Reinert et al., IN-VITRO ACTIVITIES OF THE NEW KETOLIDE ANTIBIOTICS HMR-3004 AND HMR-3647 AGAINST STREPTOCOCCUS-PNEUMONIAE IN GERMANY, Antimicrobial agents and chemotherapy, 42(6), 1998, pp. 1509-1511
The comparative in vitro activity of HMR 3004 and HMR 3647, new ketoli
de antibiotics, was tested by a standard agar dilution technique again
st 221 pneumococcal strains, including isolates with intermediate leve
ls of resistance to penicillin and erythromycin-resistant isolates. Th
e ketolides were more active than other macrolides and showed excellen
t activity against erythromycin-resistant strains. All the strains wer
e inhibited by less than or equal to 2 mu g of HMR 3004/ml or by less
than or equal to 0.5 mu g of HMR 3647/ml.
