Abstract
Mobile and portable telephone systems use intermittent signal receptio n and reduce power consumption during call waiting periods to accompli shed longer standby times (longer durable time between battery chargin g). This is based on shorter turn-on times, system design, and hardwar e progress. This paper describes schemes for low power consumption tec hnology when the phone is in out-of-service areas, and low power contr ol schemes during call waiting times. (C) 1998 Scripta Technica.
