P. Laurens et al., ENHANCEMENT OF THE ADHESIVE BONDING PROPERTIES OF PEEK BY EXCIMER-LASER TREATMENT, International journal of adhesion and adhesives, 18(1), 1998, pp. 19-27
Pulsed excimer laser (lambda = 193 nm) was used to significantly enhan
ce the adhesive bonding properties of polyether-etherketone films. Res
ults show that good performances can be obtained in the ''surface trea
tment'' regime, i.e. for laser fluences lower than the ablation fluenc
e threshold. The surface modifications of the laser treated surfaces a
s well as the influence of the treatment parameters were studied. Seve
ral kinds of surface modifications were identified: surface cleaning,
surface amorphization, chemical modifications. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scien
