The ''Tariquides'', a tectonic unit involved in the Gibraltar Arc, com
prise some original Triassic deposits. They start (Los Pastores, near
Algeciras) with argillites and bright gypsum, followed by often colour
ed pelites and sandstones, and dated by Cordevolian (Early Carnian) pa
lynomorphs and Upper Ladinian-Lower Carnian Bivalves (mainly Trigoniac
ea, Myophoriidae). In continuity, are found some clear dolomites with
pelitic horizons, Julian-Lower Tuvalian (''Middle'' Carnian) in age, f
ollowed by Upper Triassic (?) thick dolomites (Gibraltar, Jebel Moussa
). Tariquide Triassic domain was probably located between the Subbetic
(germano-andalusian) realm and the Alpine one, known in the present i
nternal betic-riffian zones.
