Sl. Wang et al., SIALOGRAPHIC CHARACTERIZATION OF THE NORMAL PAROTID-GLAND OF THE MINIATURE PIG, Dento-maxillo-facial radiology, 27(3), 1998, pp. 178-181
Objective: To characterize the structure of the parotid gland of the m
iniature pigs (minipig). Methods: Sialographic, anatomical, histologic
al and ultrastructural studies of the parotid gland were performed on
11 minipigs, Results: Sialograms showed a long main duct and a triangu
lar shaped gland. All blanching ducts extended from the inferior-poste
rior margin of the main duct. No accessory glands were found. Typical
serous acini were found microscopically and histochemically. Conclusio
n: This study provides basic structural information on the parotid gla
nd of the minipig.
