Abstract
The potential of photochemistry in cluster synthesis has been demonstr ated by the high yield preparation of (mu-H)(mu-X)Ru-3(CO)(10) {X = Cl (2a), Br (2b), I (2c)} from Ru-3(CO)(12) (1) and the molecular struct ure of (mu-H)(mu Cl)Ru-3(CO)(10) (2a) determined by single-crystal X-r ay diffraction. As an extension to the work, the halide containing com plexes have also been prepared thermally by reaction of the appropriat e allyl halide with the novel di-hydrido cluster H2Ru3(CO)(10) (3).
