A new heterotrinuclear complex, [NiCr2(bipy)(2)(C2O4)(4)(H2O)(2)]. H2O
, has been synthesized by self-assembling [Cr(bipy)(C2O4)(2)](-) build
ing blocks with Ni(II) ions. The synthesis way consists of the reactio
n of a barium(II) precursor, [BaCr2(bipy)(2)(C2O4)(4)(H2O)]. H2O, with
nickel(II) sulfate. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility meas
urements indicate an antiferromagnetic coupling between Ni(II) and Cr(
III) ions (J = -0.6 cm(-1), D-Ni = 0.4 cm(-1), H = -J(SCr1SNi + SCr2SN
i) + SNiDNiSNi). (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
