PHARMACOTHERAPY IN ALCOHOL-PROBLEMS

This paper summarises developments in the pharmacotherapy of alcohol p roblems reported during 1996. A better understanding of the biological basis of dependence has led to the development of novel forms of ther apy. Higher standards of design and quality in evaluation studies are leading to improved evidence-based guidelines for clinical treatment. Achieving good compliance with both psychological and pharmacological therapies is of critical importance in improving effectiveness. (C) 19 98 Rapid Science Ltd.
