Abstract
A case of Viper aspis bite followed by severe envenomation, shock, neu rotoxic symptoms, myoglobinuria and coagulation disorders with thrombo sis of the iliac vessels and intestinal infarction is described. A rig ht hemicolectomy had to be performed. Treatment is described in detail . European adder bites may cause, although uncommonly, severe envenomi ng with unusual symptoms. The attending doctor must be prepared to fac e unusual diagnostic and therapeutic problems. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scien ce Ltd. All rights reserved.
