Ov. Pankratov et al., NUMERICALLY MODELING THE RATIO OF CROSS-STRAIT VOLTAGE TO WATER TRANSPORT FOR THE BERING STRAIT, EARTH PLANETS AND SPACE, 50(2), 1998, pp. 165-169
We find out if the ratio of cross-strait voltage to water transport fo
r the Bering Strait (BS) is constant. For this purpose, we have develo
ped a technique to construct BS water velocity maps. We have built up
a three-dimensional conductivity model for the BS region. Using this m
odel, we have simulated coast-to-coast voltage for the various velocit
y maps constructed. We have found that the voltage/transport ratio rem
ains constant for electromagnetic field periods exceeding 2 days. We h
ave estimated the ratio as 239 +/- 11 mV/(km(2).m/s) assuming bottom s
ediment conductance to be 600 S. We conclude that measuring cross-stra
it voltage allows the monitoring of BS water transport.
