The authors summarize history of treatments of human infections due to
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, particularly burns and otitis, by use of acet
ic acid (or even vinegar). They infer a procedure for a treatment of c
anine otitis caused by this germ. Severe clinical signs, recurrence an
d isolation of P. aeruginosa are criteria of inclusion of the dogs in
the protocol. Acetic acid is used by washing of the ear canal daily wi
th a 0.5 p. 100 solution during the first week, then at 5 p. 100 the n
ext 3 weeks. Preliminary results seem very promising both from the cli
nical and the bacteriological point of view.
