M. Goppert et al., INFRARED-SPECTROSCOPY OF CONFINED OPTICAL AND FOLDED ACOUSTICAL PHONONS IN STRAINED CDSE CDS SUPERLATTICES/, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 57(20), 1998, pp. 13068-13071
CdSe/CdS superlattices were grown in the wurtzite crystal structure on
a GaAs (111) substrate. Due to the strain-induced piezoelectric effec
t in the individual CdS and CdSe layers it was possible to observe fir
st-order folded acoustic phonons by measuring reflectance spectra at o
blique incidence. First-order confined transversal (longitudinal) opti
cal phonons were observed for CdS as well as for CdSe. Due to the larg
e lattice mismatch of 3.9% a strain-induced shift of the detected conf
ined phonon frequencies is observed.
