Abstract
The synthesis of a 17-membered carbocycle by macrocyclization with a c hloroketone is reported. Attempts to produce a tetracyclic intermediat e for the synthesis of fusidic acid from the transannular aldol and Di els-Alder reactions on this key macrocyclic triene are described.
