In this paper, the deterministic prediction of damage via damage funct
ion analysis (DFA), which provides a robust technology for estimating
the damage function at future times, Is described. General analytical
expressions for calculating the damage functions that can be used with
arbitrary dependencies of pit nucleation rate, pit growth rate, and r
epassivation rate on the system parameters have been obtained. The app
lication of DFA to prediction of pitting damage is illustrated by refe
rence to the pitting corrosion of iron in neutral chloride-containing
solutions.
